What Are Vascular Lesions?
Vascular lesions are visible blood vessels or redness that appear on the skin due to broken or enlarged capillaries, sun exposure, genetics, or certain skin conditions. These can include:
Unlike traditional resurfacing lasers, the Ultra offers:
-
Spider veins (telangiectasia)
-
Facial redness and flushing
-
Broken blood vessels (typically on the nose and cheeks)
-
Rosacea-related visible vessels
-
Cherry angiomas
-
Venous lakes (purplish spots usually on the lips or face)
Though harmless, they can cause cosmetic concerns and may worsen over time if left untreated.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments will I need to remove vascular lesions?
Many patients see visible improvement after just one session, especially for smaller vessels or isolated lesions. However, for larger or more complex vascular areas, a series of 2–3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart may be recommended for optimal clearance.
Are vascular lesion treatments painful?
Most patients describe the sensation as a mild snap or heat on the skin—similar to a rubber band flick. Thanks to Clarity II™’s built-in contact cooling, discomfort is minimal, and no numbing cream is usually needed. Any redness or sensitivity typically fades within a few hours.
What should I do to prepare for treatment?
To ensure the safest and most effective results:
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks before treatment
- Refrain from using retinoids or strong exfoliants on the treatment area for 3–5 days prior
- Let your provider know about any medications, especially those that increase photosensitivity or thin the blood
What skincare should I use before and after vascular lesion treatment with Clarity IIâ„¢?
Before treatment, avoid using any retinoids, exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs), or topical steroids for 3–5 days to minimize sensitivity. Refrain from tanning or using self-tanners for at least 2 weeks prior.Â
After treatment, follow these skincare guidelines:
- Use a gentle, hydrating cleanser and a non-irritating moisturizer to soothe the skin
- Apply cold compresses if mild redness or swelling occurs
- Avoid hot showers, exercise, or sun exposure for 24–48 hours
- Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Hold off on retinoids and active ingredients for at least 5–7 days post-treatment
Your provider may recommend targeted skincare to support healing and protect the treated area.
Are the results permanent?
Once treated, the targeted blood vessels are typically permanently collapsed and absorbed by the body. However, new vessels may form over time due to factors like sun exposure, genetics, or underlying skin conditions (e.g., rosacea). Occasional maintenance treatments may be beneficial.
